District Enrollments

• Data is sourced from the FLDOE's Public School Data Publications and Reports, under "Membership in Florida Public Schools by Race/Ethnicity," years 2014-15 to 2024-25.

• Compiles a state total and assigns it District Name = “Florida” and District Num = 0.

• Survey 2 represents Fall enrollment and Survey 3 represents Spring enrollment.

• All courses with enrollment of fewer than 10 students are represented by 0.

• Naming conventions are accounted for in the SQL query found here.

 

District Grades

• Data is sourced from the FLDOE's Florida School Grades Archive​, under "Membership in Florida Public Schools by Race/Ethnicity," years 2014-15 to 2023-24. Missing the 2019-20 school year due to COVID-19.

• Missing or insufficient data are set to NULL.

• All values in columns C-M and P are out of 100.

• Information about how grades are measured can be found at fldoe.org.

 

District Graduation Rate by Race

• Data is sourced from the FLDOE's Public School Data Publications and Reports​, under "Public High School Graduation Rates by School and District," years 2014-15 to 2023-24, missing the data from the 2015-16 school year.

• “District” column is separated into “District Number” and “District Name”, respectively. “District Number” starts at 1 and increments by 1 for each following district alphabetically.

• “*” values, which represent fewer than 10 observations, are removed and set to NULL. Those values’ dependencies in the sheet are not modified.

• Value in the “Year” column represents the school year whose Spring semester matches the value; i.e. school year Fall 2014 - Spring 2015 is shown as “2015”.

Crime: District​

• Data is sourced from the FLDOE's Discipline Data, under "Discipline Data Statewide and by School District," years 2014-15 to 2023-24.

• Values in rows whose value in the “District Name” column is “FLORIDA” are the sum of all districts in the same year. They are not calculated or modified by The DeVoe L. Moore Center.

• Values in the “Type of Incident” column represent categories, while columns F and beyond represent concurrent factors. Thus, the sum of values in columns F and beyond in a given row can exceed the value in the same row of the “Total Incidents” column.

• Naming conventions are accounted for in the SQL query found here.

 

Demographics: District

• Data is sourced from the FLDOE's Public School Data Publications and Reports​, under "Membership in Florida Public Schools by Race/Ethnicity," years 2014-15 to 2023-24. 

• The values in the column which simply states the race contains the total number of students in that racial category in the district shown.

• “*” values, which represent fewer than 10 observations, are set to NULL. Those values’ dependencies in the sheet are not modified.

• Value in the “Year” column represents the school year whose Spring semester matches the value; i.e. school year Fall 2014 - Spring 2015 is shown as “2015”.

 

Free Lunch: District

• Data is sourced from the FLDOE's Public School Data Publications and Reports​, under "Free/Reduced Price Lunch," years 2014-15 to 2024-25. 

• Values in the column titled “Number of Students” represent the total number of students in that district. The values in column “Number of Students” are the values of the corresponding quotients of column I divided by column J. This value is not calculated by The DeVoe L. Moore Center.

• Subjects can be in more than one subcategory, so the sums of values in rows E-J are not sums of individual qualifying students.

Free Lunch Demographics: District

• Data is sourced from the FLDOE's Public School Data Publications and Reports​, under "Free/Reduced Price Lunch," years 2014-15 to 2024-25.

• Data is sourced from the FLDOE's Facts & Figures page, under "Home Education," years 2015-16 to 2022-23.

• The values in the “Students” column represent the number of individual homeschool students reported in that district.

• Value in the “Year” column represents the school year whose Spring semester matches the value; i.e. school year Fall 2014 - Spring 2015 is shown as “2015”.

 

Non-Promotions: District

• Data is sourced from the FLDOE's Public School Data Publications and Reports​, under "Non-Promotions, 3rd Grade Promotions, Retentions," years 2014-15 to 2022-23.

• Value in the “Grade” column corresponds to the grade level of the observations, drawn from the sheet name in the original FDOE data set. “K” is for kindergarten, then 1 to 12 for first grade through twelfth grade.

• The values in each column whose name is simply the race contain the sum of the values in the same row of the two preceding columns: [Race] Female and [Race] Male.

• “*” values, which represent fewer than 10 observations, are set to NULL. Those values’ dependencies in the sheet are not modified.

• Value in the “Year” column represents the school year whose Spring semester matches the value; i.e. school year Fall 2014 - Spring 2015 is shown as “2015”.

 

Number of General Schools: District

• Data is sourced from the FLDOE's Public School Data Publications and Reports​, under "Public School MSID," years 2020-21 to 2024-25.

• Represents the number of standard public schools at each level.

• Value in the “Year” column represents the school year whose Spring semester matches the value; i.e. school year Fall 2014 - Spring 2015 is shown as “2015”.

 

Retention Rates: District

• Data is sourced from the FLDOE's Public School Data Publications and Reports​, under "Non-Promotions, 3rd Grade Promotions, Retentions," years 2014-15 to 2022-23.

• Column E sums the values in the corresponding rows of columns C and D. Column F approximates the percentage of the corresponding values in column C of the corresponding values in column E. They are not calculated or modified by The DeVoe L. Moore Center.

• Value in the “Grade” column corresponds to the grade level of the observations, drawn from the sheet name in the original FDOE data set. “K” is for kindergarten, then 1 to 12 for first grade through twelfth grade.

• Value in the “Year” column represents the school year whose Spring semester matches the value; i.e. school year Fall 2014 - Spring 2015 is shown as “2015”.

• Data is sourced from Georgetown University's National Education Resource Database on Schools, years 2017-18 to 2022-23.

• Column H sums the values in the corresponding rows of columns F and G. Column K sums the values in the corresponding rows of columns I and J. Column L sums the values in the corresponding rows of columns H and K. They are not calculated or modified by The DeVoe L. Moore Center.

• The values in the “School Number” column are unique only within the district, however, two schools in different districts can have the same school number. School number generally remains the same across years and datasets.

• Value in the “Year” column represents the school year whose Spring semester matches the value; i.e. school year Fall 2014 - Spring 2015 is shown as “2015”.
